These tea bowl forms are heavily influenced by the aesthetic ideals of wabi sabi.  I embrace chance and imperfection through a time honored vessel form with new materials and techniques.  In the history of ceramics, soda firing is a relatively new technique, and I love the amount of control it gives me while reminding me that I still lack complete agency.  I enjoy using materials such as commercial underglazes in conjunction with the unpredictability of the atmospheric firing to play with natural tones and patterns next to pastel, flat colors. These vessels allow me to investigate the material while observing the forms, textures, colors and processes.
